There’s a great article over at o3: magazine on why using open source in your technology strategy is about investing in your people, your company and your vision, and not investing in your vendors. Now that may seem an odd statement coming from a solution provider like myself, but I’ve always been a strong proponent open solutions, solutions that don’t lock you in to any particular vendor or supplier. I’m just another supplier, I shouldn’t rely on software or secrets to keep you doing business with you, I should continue to impress you and make you feel that I am a benefit to your organisation. You should always have the option of using an alternative supplier or even taking the services inhouse.

Like any relationship, it has to be two-way to work & be healthy, you have to want me as much as I want you.
